Ready for a Promotion? Is Your Company?

Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege to work with outstanding brands and leaders. While I’ve encountered a few challenges along the way, my journey has been incredibly fulfilling—both financially and in terms of personal growth and team contribution.

I’ve experienced unexpected career advancements three times. At Kenosia, I began as Director of Sales and ascended to CEO. At Edible Arrangements, starting as VP of Business Gifting, I eventually oversaw multiple departments, including Business Development, Franchisee Support, Customer Care, and Training & Development. Most recently, at ISG, a leading Research and Advisory firm, I progressed from Senior Director of Sales to Chief Sales Officer, then ISG Partner, culminating in my appointment as President of ISG Research in January 2024.

I’d love to claim a secret formula for success, but the truth is simple: each of us holds the potential to earn promotions and excel in our careers, making meaningful contributions along the way.

Here are some key considerations:

  1. Attitude is Altitude: Are you the person who eagerly jumps in to help, or do you shy away? In challenging meetings, do you uplift the team and steer towards success? A positive attitude and reliability are invaluable traits that colleagues and leaders seek.
  2. Deliver on Your Promise: Beyond completing tasks, ensure your efforts align with delivering measurable outcomes and results. Collaborate closely with your manager to understand how your work contributes to broader goals and prioritize accordingly.
  3. Dress for Success: Whether in-person or on Zoom, your appearance matters. Always present yourself professionally, as first impressions count. Even on virtual platforms, dressing appropriately shows respect and professionalism.
  4. Get Things Done: Strive for productivity and reliability. While maintaining a healthy work-life balance, demonstrate commitment to finishing tasks promptly and effectively. Colleagues should trust your ability to deliver, especially when deadlines approach.
  5. Own Failure, Share Success: Accountability is crucial. Accept responsibility when things don’t go as planned, rather than making excuses. Conversely, celebrate achievements openly, recognizing the contributions of others. Building a supportive network fosters trust and enhances leadership potential.

By embodying these principles—positive attitude, commitment to results, professionalism, productivity, and accountability—you can position yourself not just for a promotion but as a trusted leader within your organization.
