Sonal Patney

Sonal is a corporate and investment banker and author having originated, marketed, structured, and executed, over 100 debt and equity financings that ranged from $5 million to $4.0 billion. She started her career in investment banking for UBS as part of the TMT Group in 1999 in San Francisco, as a Financial Analyst in ECM. She joined Bank of New York Mellon in 2001, while pursuing her Master’s at Columbia University simultaneously, where she held multiple roles. After graduate school, she stayed with BNY Mellon and transitioned back to investment banking in DCM as part of BNY Capital Markets, working on financings across diverse sectors, and is a recipient of awards in client relationship and deal management and cross-selling from BNY. Other firms she worked for have included BNP Paribas in corporate banking and BayernLB in syndications and on project finance; her consulting roles have included UniCredit in project and structured finance, an entrepreneurial venture for early-stage companies in MN, political consulting for a Gubernatorial candidate in 2010 in MN as well, BNY Mellon in syndications and project finance, Chatsworth Securities in investment banking, Arch & Beam in debt advisory, BQ Media Lab in early-stage disruptive technologies advisory, and Castle Placement in investment banking.
As of October 2022, Sonal became an author with her book on sustainable finance debt by Europe Books - “How Should We Think About Debt Capital Markets Today? ESG’s Effect on DCM”. As a graduate of Columbia University (SIPA), and New York University (CAS) she holds an MPA with a concentration in International Economic Policy, and a BA in Political Science, respectively. Additionally, she has been a pro bono SCORE LI mentor for small businesses up until July 2023, and the recipient of a mentoring award from SCORE. She joined the FENG in January 2020.
